Recently, my bestie and I ditched the beaches and big cities and instead took the ultimate moms’ trip to the mountains around Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There, thrilling outdoor adventure meets hip, retro dining, and nightlife to make any cowgirl swoon. Visitors are guaranteed an incredible friends’ getaway that is much more exciting than the typical cliche girls’ trip destinations. After all, who needs a beach when you’ve got the Tetons and a fresh take on mountain magic?

Outdoor Adventures

Hike or Boat to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls

We started our adventure with an early visit to Jenny Lake, like watching the sun rise early. (Don’t worry- we stopped for coffee on the way!) We wanted to get there early to beat the crowds, as Jenny Lake is one of the most popular attractions at Jackson Hole.

Jenny Lake is best experienced by boat or by hiking around it. Visitors can rent a boat or take a scenic cruise with Jenny Lake Boating Tours

Take a shuttle boat across the lake to access the Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls trailhead. This moderate hike provides one of the best views of the Grand Tetons, making it a great way to kick off your adventure.

Check the boat shuttle times for the day and plan to be on one of the first shuttles. The parking lot is large but fills up very fast. As I said, Jenny Lake is one of the most popular attractions in Grand Teton National Park. So, like us, plan an early trip!

Horseback Riding in the Tetons

No Wyoming adventure is complete without saddling up for some horseback riding- it’s practically a rite of passage!

Take a guided horseback ride through Grand Teton National Park or book a ride at Spring Creek Ranch for a quintessential Wyoming experience. The sweeping mountain views just might make you feel like a cowboy in a movie – minus the spurs and bad guys. Trust us, this is the kind of moment you’ll be talking about long after the dust settles!

Self-Guided Side-by-Side Tour

For an exhilarating way to explore the National Elk Refuge, rent a side-by-side from Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals. If you’re wondering, a side-by-side is like an ATV’s cooler, more social cousin—a rugged off-road vehicle with two seats (or more) side by side, perfect for adventuring with friends or family. It’s built to handle the wild terrain while keeping the ride comfortable and fun. Think of it as your trusty chariot for soaking in those jaw-dropping Wyoming views!

After a brief safety talk, the friendly guides at Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals provide guests with a map of the National Elk Refuge. Then, enjoy four hours of freedom on the side-by-side for only $260, which we found surprisingly reasonable.

Alpine Adventures… and Waffles

The Bridger Gondola at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers a scenic ride to incredible views at 9,095 feet. At the top, visit Corbet’s Cabin for their famous “Top of the World” waffles. It’s hard to resist once you get off the gondola and smell the warm, buttery waffles. And I don’t think there’s anything better than eating Nutella-covered waffles while surrounded by a panoramic vista of the Grand Tetons. Because there isn’t. (Well, maybe if Jason Momoa was there with a tray of mimosas, but I digress.)

Next, take the Cirque Trail down to a separate ski lift that will carry you back down the mountain (the gondola pass is good for lifts). This beautiful ride winds through alpine meadows and delivers stunning views of the rugged peaks and valleys below. If visiting late in the summer, you will be treated to incredible fields of wildflowers. This is the perfect way to combine adventure, great food, and breathtaking scenery in one unforgettable experience. This was our favorite part of our Jackson Hole girls’ trip!

Paddleboard at String Lake

For water adventure, head to String Lake to try stand-up paddleboarding. There are many beautiful lakes to choose from in Grand Teton National Park, and String Lake was recommended to us multiple times by locals (and for good reason!). It was relatively quiet compared to other lakes, with calm water and gorgeous views.

While there are multiple places to rent SUPs or kayaks in Jackson Hole, I recommend renting from Adventure Sports in Moose right at the entrance of Grand Teton National Park for the convenient location and reasonable price.

Phelps Lake Jumping Rock

For a real thrill—and an awesome clip in your Instagram reel—make a stop at Phelps Lake Jumping Rock. It is a common place to find people jumping off a high lakeside rock into Phelps Lake with the Grand Tetons in the background.

Evening Stroll Through Mormon Row

An evening stroll through Mormon Row offers a glimpse into the past of the original Mormon settlers of the area. Its historic barns date back to the late 1800s. During golden hour, the soft light bathes the landscape, enhancing the beauty of the weathered structures and surrounding fields. The area’s timeless charm and breathtaking scenery have made it a popular wedding destination, where couples are drawn to the rustic setting and stunning mountain backdrop. Strolling along the gravel road is a perfect way to relax on your girls’ trip before grabbing dinner and hitting the dance floor.
