From Tan Lines to Water Slides: 9 Caribbean Vacays the Whole Family Will Love

With turquoise waters and white sand beaches, there aren’t many reasons to leave the natural wonder of the Caribbean and walk into a hotel. However, family resorts with water parks in the Caribbean may be that reason. When we visit the Caribbean, we make sure to find resorts with water parks so the kids can get crazy and we parents can get a snooze. Or enjoy a cocktail without worrying about ocean supervision.

Now, we know from experience that most kiddos, like mine, are happier than clams at high tide just playing in the sand and surf all day, inevitably finding new crevices for sand to live in for the rest of the trip. However, the diverse activities at these Caribbean resorts are plentiful, allowing kids and teens to break out of the mundane sandcastle building and participate in Caribbean cultural activities that will build lifelong memories and a good base tan.  It’s like opening Blackbeard’s treasure chest and finding gold in the form of memories, magic, and maybe a little mayhem.

Beaches Turks and Caicos

Beaches Turks and Caicos offers an unforgettable family vacation experience that exceeds all expectations. From the moment guests arrive, the resort’s stunning landscaping and beautiful Grace Bay beach make a lasting impression. But the real wow factor comes from the resort itself—gorgeously maintained and packed with amenities that cater to all ages. The property is divided into five international “villages,” each with its own pool and restaurant matching the culture of the village. Most families spend their time at the Italian Village pool, the largest pool on the property, which features shallow areas perfect for young children to splash around. With plenty of shade and comfortable lounge chairs available, there’s no need to worry about finding a spot to relax.

One of the coolest (and convenient) aspects of the pool area, IMO, is the swim-up bars at every pool. That’s right. EVERY. POOL. Of course, kids aren’t ordering cocktails, but parents totally are, so this is a fun addition for both kids and adults. The kids may prefer the “Chocolate Monkey” milkshake, a chocolatey treat that’s a huge hit.

One of the highlights of the resort, and probably the reason every kid here sleeps in swim goggles and wakes up at the crack of dawn, is Pirates Island Waterpark. This water park spans an impressive 45,000 square feet of water fun. It includes everything from thrilling tube and body slides to a lazy river, a wave pool, and even a surf simulator for those seeking an adrenaline rush. Kids can “surf” or “boogie board” without worrying about sharks; my kid still prefers the no-shark kind of surfing. Parents can float lazily in the river, soaking up the tropical vibes.

In addition to the water park, Beaches offers a range of activities on land and sea, including snorkeling and scuba diving (for certified divers). Certification classes are available for an additional fee. In fact, our editor got her boys certified at this resort.

Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are free too. On your rest day, take a stroll down the pier. Adventurous kids might even be tempted to jump into the warm water. Why not?

Those who don’t want to get wet can take a glass-bottom boat tour with views of fish swimming beneath. This is one experience that leaves visitors with only one thought: When. Can. We. Come. Back. Seriously.

 Atlantis Paradise Island

Atlantis Paradise Island is the glitzy excitement of Vegas meeting Indiana Jones and the Little Mermaid. In other words, it’s over the top in every way, but mainly in the waterpark way. At the heart of Atlantis lies Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape packed with over 20 swimming areas, 14 pools, and more water slides than you can shake a lifejacket at. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, a lounge-around-the-pool type or a eye-rolling teen, Aquaventure has just the right amount of wet and wild, depending on your mood.

For the thrill-seekers in the family, the Power Tower is a no-brainer. At 120 feet tall, it’s home to four slides that’ll send you screaming down twisting tubes, plunging into cavernous drops, and rocketing through water roller coasters. Feeling brave and want to gain the respect of your kids or siblings? Jump onto The Leap of Faith, a 60-foot near-vertical drop into a shark-filled lagoon. Don’t worry, they say the sharks are more “mild” than “wild,” whatever that means. If you prefer something a little less heart-pounding, the mile-long Rapids River awaits. This scenic waterway offers everything from serene floats to surges of white-water rapids that’ll keep your senses tingling.

And for the little kiddos, Poseidon’s Playzone is a new water wonderland with over 40 different ways to splish and splash, including slides, water cannons, and tipping cones. It’s a colorful paradise for your little adventurers. Aside from all the park fun, let’s not forget that the pool is cool. And with more than 20 pools (including adults-only options and laid-back lagoons), Atlantis is truly a swimmer’s dream come true.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

Imagine a place where luxury meets fun, and beachside relaxation is just as exciting as heart-pounding adventure. That’s Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in Nassau. The Bahamas’ crown jewel located on the pristine sands of Cable Beach. Here, you’ll find three high-end hotels—our fave, the Grand Hyatt, but also the Rosewood and SLS—offering the ultimate beachfront escape with shopping, dining, and relaxation, all wrapped in a sun-kissed package.

Sure, everyone loves a beautifully appointed hotel and luxurious rooms, but let’s get real! Kids want fun and waterslides. Let them make a splash at Baha Bay water park, where thrills and luxury go hand in hand. Watch them zip down high-speed slides like Devil’s Backbone and Thunderball, or take a slow, relaxing float down The River—because let’s face it, not every day should start with a heart-stopping drop! For the little ones (or the inner child in you), Turtle Beach and Stingray Cove offer splash zones and twisty slides that’ll have everyone grinning ear to ear.

If you’re feeling fancy and need a little “me” time without the family part of a family vacation, dive into ESPA Destination Spa, where 30,000 square feet of relaxation await. From luxurious mud wraps—the kind you can truly enjoy, not the kid version after a rainstorm – to manicures and pedicures, you’ll leave feeling like royalty. Still not relaxed enough? You can always wander over to The Sanctuary, where you can get friendly with a nurse shark or swim alongside stingrays. It’s like an interactive episode of National Geographic… minus the danger. But the fun doesn’t stop there. For the gaming parents—we mean casino chips, not Xbox controllers—Baha Mar’s Casino offers 100,000 square feet of gaming, with floor-to-ceiling windows that give you a view of the sunset while you’re winning big. And now that you’re a high roller, top off the evening with some electrifying vibes at the high-end Bond Night Club, designed by none other than Lenny Kravitz!

El Conquistador Puerto Rico

Looking to conquer your next family vacay?  Look no further than El Conquistador Resort in Puerto Rico! This paradise is packed with everything you could want: gorgeous beaches, thrilling waterparks, and family-friendly activities that will keep both kids and adults grinning from ear to ear.

First stop: Palomino Island. This private island is just a short boat ride away and offers a beach day that’s literally straight out of a postcard. Whether you want to relax on the sand, splash in the turquoise waters, or try out some water sports, this is your go-to spot for a fun family day under the sun.

But the real showstopper for the kids is Coqui Water Park. It’s the only seaside water park in Puerto Rico, and trust us, it’s worth the splash! The park has three slides that will have your family screaming with joy. The Huracán slide will whip you down at lightning speed, while Gigante Dormido offers a wild ride through twists and turns. And if you’re feeling really daring, Marohu is the heart-pounding slide with a massive vertical drop that’s sure to leave everyone breathless. Seriously, it’s like riding a rollercoaster—except you’re in water, and you might get wet. (Spoiler alert: you will.)

For the adventurous souls who love nature, or momma needs a waterslide-free day, take your clan to El Yunque National Rain Forest. Hike through one of the few remaining tropical rainforests in the U.S. National Forest System. Keep your head on a swivel for stunning views of waterfalls, lush greenery with leaves the size of a golf umbrella, and the occasional serenade of a coqui frog.

No trip to Puerto Rico is complete without a visit to Old San Juan, which is bursting with colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, and cats – like, so many cats, but in a cute, not creepy way.  After roaming Old San Juan make your way to the historic El Morro Fort, where you can let your kids channel their inner pirates while learning about Puerto Rico’s rich history.

Golfers, don’t worry, there’s something for you too! El Conquistador Resort boasts one of the best golf courses in Puerto Rico, with views so stunning you might just forget to keep score. Guests can rent clubs, take lessons, use the driving ranges, and practice on the practice greens.

Can you even call it a family vacation if it isn’t filled with laughter, slime, and sticky memories? Nickelodeon Hotel and Resort Punta Cana doesn’t think so. This isn’t just another resort, it’s a full-on, slime-filled family adventure! Whether you have a small crew or a more the merrier situation, you’ll find the perfect space to unwind in the rooms here, which are just as fun as they are comfortable. From cozy rooms to sensational villas that sleep up to 8 guests, you’ll feel right at home, surrounded by all the vibrant, colorful, Nickelodeon-style fun.

When you’re ready to unleash the kiddos, head over to Nickelodeon Place. It’s a menagerie of thumping music, flashy games, and water slides that equals family-friendly fun. Popular Nickelodeon characters like SpongeBob, Dora, and Michelangelo frequent this spot too, so be on the lookout for your favorite buddy.

If your kiddos are like mine, water play is everything, time has no meaning, and pruned fingers and toes are no big deal. If that is the case, make a beeline for Aqua Nick, for endless hours of wet and wild play. With waterslides, splash pads, lazy rivers, and the pièce de resistance (sibling payback time)—Super Slimings—your kids won’t want to leave.

Need a mommy moment? Drop the little ones off at Club Nick, a kids-only haven where they can unplug, make new friends, enjoy story time, and dive into other non-slimy adventures. Meanwhile, you can sneak off and enjoy some grown-up time—maybe at the spa or by the pool with a margarita—while knowing the kids are in good hands.

They’re perfect for families who love a bit of splashy fun. And don’t worry—there are plenty of safe, shallow areas for the little ones to enjoy, too. It’s the island’s largest water park. Plus, grab a cold one and enjoy floating through the lazy river that encircles the entire park. But watch out for the waterfall!

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya

Hard Rock Hotel, located in the Mexican Caribbean, is about an hour’s drive from the Cancun airport. This is THE place to enjoy the ultimate family vacation. The Rockaway Water Park is 23 water slides designed for kids of most ages with varying degrees of thrill. A bar situated in the middle of the park makes watching the kids throw themselves down these slides all day a bit more bearable. A food truck with kid favorites extends your family fun into the evening.

Rockaway Water Park is next to Vibe City, an indoor facility with a bowling alley and a rock climbing gym. Plus, it’s the headquarters of the fun Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club for kids ages 5+, with unique children’s activities, fun crafts and games, live concerts, and rocking jam sessions. Kids will be busy the whole day!

There are family activities designed to excite kids in the family section of the resort, called Splash, where we saw a raucous foam pool party right before we went snorkeling in the clear, blue-tinted water inside the Hard Rock’s man-made, reef-protected beach.

In the meantime, parents can have a refreshing cocktail at the swim-up bars, chill in one of the adult-only Heaven swimming pools, stay in shape at the Body Rock fitness center, take a water fitness class or pickleball at the tennis courts, or just get relaxing treatments at the Rock Spa. What else could they ask for?

Head over to the world-class spa for some major adulting! Indulge in a relaxing treatment while the kids are off having their own fun. Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those resorts where you’ll spend the whole time chasing after a pool floatie—at Jewel Runaway Bay, the little ones are busy in the kids’ club (and yes, kids stay free!) so you can recharge in private beachside cabanas.

Of course, you can always hit the links at two of Jamaica’s most celebrated golf courses—White Witch and Cinnamon Hill, if golfing in paradise is your thing.

Whether you’re soaking up the sun, splashing in the pool, or just enjoying a sunset with the family, Jewel Runaway Bay is the perfect tropical escape where everyone—yes, everyone—has a great time.

When Is The Best Time To Visit The Caribbean?

Something to consider: June to November is considered Atlantic Hurricane season, which affects the US eastern seaboard to Florida and the Gulf states, including Mexico and the Caribbean. Don’t let it be the only factor in your travel dates, just keep it in your peripheral.

Getting to the Caribbean from Los Angeles

Not to state the obvious, but if you’re planning on taking your crew to the Caribbean, you’re going to need to fly – unless you’re a pirate. Several airlines like JetBlue, Cayman Airways, and Alaska Airlines offer flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to various Caribbean destinations, including the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, and the Dominican Republic. These flights can take anywhere from 5.5 to 6 hours.

An excellent discount site for rental cars and flights is Booking! We’ve literally saved hundreds using it.

I grew up with a red Webster’s Dictionary on the kitchen counter, which is where my love of words and crafty writing was born. My constant word doodling and storytelling was also a pretty good sign I was destined for the writer’s life too. I am a master brand storyteller, creative ringleader, and kick-a content creator based in Park City, Utah, where I live with my three incredible kiddos, my guy, and three of the goofiest doodle doggies you’ll ever meet. My specialties include copywriting, content creation, wordsmithing, editing, proofreading, SEO marketing, brainstorming, and picking brains. I’m also very good at multitasking, single-tasking, and “I’ll just do it myself” tasking. Last, but certainly not least, I specialize in spontaneous bursts of sheer brilliance. I traded life near the Pacific Ocean for mountain town living in Park City, which actually feels like a chill beach town…so it’s a pretty even trade, except for the snow – obvi!
