As a mom, I always dream of beautiful and relaxing vacations on stunning beaches, but the reality of having a family sometimes pops that bubble. However, a beach vacation with kids in Cabo San Lucas is the ultimate family vacation. Mexico is a place you have to see for yourself, packed with amazing food, beautiful ocean views, and so many fun activities. And who doesn’t love a beach vacation? I already know that answer, so if you have a skeptical teenager, just remind them that the sun bouncing off the crystal blue ocean makes for one incredible selfie filter–and boom they’ll be packed in a jif!

A Note About Cabo Beaches

Not all beaches are created equal. Some beaches in Cabo are not safe for swimming due to steep ocean floor drop-offs close to shore, creating strong waves and undercurrents. These beaches are marked with red flags, so please look out for them and stay away from the water. It’s important to point this out because a fun family beach adventure can quickly turn into a water rescue, as it did for my family. That being said, there are plenty of amazing beaches to explore and places to swim in Cabo. Some of the best beaches are: Medano Beach, Lover’s Beach, Chileno Beach, Santa Maria Beach, Palmilla Beach, Cannery Beaches, and Cabo Pulmo.

When You Go

Getting There

The best way to travel from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas is by flying, which takes just under six hours. While there are many options when booking flights to Cabo San Lucas, the top options are Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and Southwest Airlines because they all have non-stop flights to get you to the beach faster! There are numerous redemption options across hotels and airlines (look into your benefits), making Cabo a great destination for putting those points and miles to good use.

Cabo San Lucas has one major airport, Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). If your hotel does not provide a complimentary shuttle service from the airport, you can hire a taxi or book a shuttle through many local providers. Two good options are TransCabo or Los Cabos Airport Shuttles, which provide a better experience than a taxi for about the same cost.

An excellent discount site for flights (and cars, hotels) is Expedia! This is where we start our research for the best deals!

If you’d like to be in the know for exclusive discounts to fly anywhere in the world, check out Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights). Their website shows current deals, and they send emails when they find crazy cheap discounts. Some can even be booked with points.

To get discounts on tours in the area, we recommend Get Your Guide or Viator (which offers 51% off last-minute tours!).

To save time (and because we travel so much), we got an annual travel insurance policy for the whole family from this site. They have affordable policies for individual trips, too, and tools to make picking one easy.

I grew up with a red Webster’s Dictionary on the kitchen counter, which is where my love of words and crafty writing was born. My constant word doodling and storytelling was also a pretty good sign I was destined for the writer’s life too. I am a master brand storyteller, creative ringleader and kick-a content creator, based in Park City, Utah, where I live with my three incredible kiddos, my guy, and three of the goofiest doodle doggies you’ll ever meet. My specialties include copywriting, content creation, word smithing, editing, proofreading, SEO marketing, brainstorming, and picking brains. I’m also very good at multitasking, single-tasking, and “I’ll just do it myself” tasking. Last, but certainly not least, I specialize in spontaneous bursts of sheer brilliance. I traded life near the Pacific Ocean for mountain town living in Park City, which actually feels like a chill beach town…so, it’s a pretty even trade, except for the snow – obvi!
